NEWS SURF MUSIC ART PRODUCT DEALERS THIS IS RHYTHM SNOW Rhythm Group, Burleigh Heads Australia (Sunday 11th December 2011) - Kieren Perrow (Aus), 34 has defeated fellow Australian Joel Parkinson, 30 to claim his first ever ASP World Tour event and USD$75,000 at the Billabong Pipeline Masters In Memory of Andy Irons on Oahu’s North Shore, Hawaii in perfect six foot surf and requalifies for the 2012 ASP World Tour.
Perrow, who last year painfully had his win snatched from him in the dying seconds of the final by Frenchman Jeremy Flores, 23 returned this year determined to go one better.
“It took me up until now to get over getting second to Jeremy last year” Perrow said. “It’s so good to get back here. I just felt so comfortable the whole time. I’ve had such a great event anyway and coming in to today, it was just amazing. The waves have been phenomenal. I haven’t surfed Pipe like that in my entire career. This is pretty much the pinnacle for me.”
Heralded as one of Australia’s hardest charging surfers on the ASP World Tour it’s been long overdue for the Byron Bay surfer to take the win at one of the most dangerous spots on tour and dominating a stacked field of World Tour competitors and local Pipeline specialists. Proving to be the stand out competitor of the event, Perrow secured an equal event highest wave score of a perfect 10 point ride against Michel Bourez (PYF), 25 in the semi finals and the second highest combined heat total of 18.73 points out of a possible 20.
This result is made even more special as Perrow needed to place 5th or better in this event to secure his requalification onto the 2012 ASP World Tour, his 6th year as an elite competitor on what is known as the Dream Tour.
The 2012 ASP World Tour kicks off at Snapper Rocks in March on the Gold Coast, Australia.

In case you can't tell we are pumped, and if you want to know more about this guy and his holistic approach to photography check out the short interview below and jump to www.danepetersonphotography.com to see his work.
Where did you grow up?
In way too many suburbs to remember, in and around the Los Angeles area.
Current location:
At my desktop on the Sunny Coast, except it's not very sunny today.
What sort of crafts do you ride?
Anything and everything I can get my hands on, but I generally prefer heavy pinched railed logs, Displacement hulls, mid length egg's, and anything Purcho (Rhythm co-founder, team-rider and designer Neil Purchase Jnr) and I conceptualize and put under our feet.
What would be your all-time favourite craft?
I don't think it's possible to have just one favourite, as there's way too many variations in design, as well as waves to express ourselves on. So it will always be constantly evolving.
How’d you get into photography?
I took a lil 35mm Ricoh point and shooter to Japan in 2001 to show my lady friend of the time what Japan had to offer. Came back chomping at the bit, frothing like a lil kid to see the processed imagery. Pretty much been hooked ever since and still get that same feeling when dropping rolls at the lab.
Do you have a favourite camera set-up?
As of late I've been fully obsessed with my Nikon F100 and 50mm F1.2, I'm getting a Mamyiya 645 pro TTL in a week or so and I'm actually a little worried that may take centre stage for a while.
What do you consider to be the best shot you’ve ever taken?
Fuck I dunno, it changes all the time, the feeling will last for a week then I'll learn something new and think it's crap and yearn to improve on it. At this rate, I may never take it.
Best place you traveled to?
Australia, I still haven't left.
Craziest thing that has ever happened to you?
Probably when I was about 17 some friends and I had just taken a bunch of Mushrooms, and were running around like mad men in a private estate in Malibu. We needed to move a couple cars and one of those little 50 Motorbikes. I'd never ridden a motorbike before got a 10 second crash course/demo, jumped on the thing, hit the throttle went straight into a wheelie which kept going more and more vertical till I flipped off the back of the fucking thing slamming my head on the concrete with no helmet, and snapping the ignition switch off the bike. It was pretty funny at the time seeing as I walked away unscathed, but i look back at it now and realize how fucking stupid and out of my mind I was.
What’s the deal with the nude self-portraits you attach with your invoices?
Well I kinda like getting naked, and I know you guys at Rhythm all love it.
It’s been said that you’re a bit of a hypochondriac, discuss.....
Ahahahahaah, well ummmm. I dunno. Maybe a lil bit ey'. I think I'm just a bit of sook when I'm ill.........I love to share with Jamahl (Rhythm Brand Manager) when i get the runz...... He loves all the gross little details, shit he may well be more twisted than me?? HAHAHAAHA
If you could do a trip with 5 people anywhere in the world, who would they be? Where would you go? And what would you get up to?
Only 5 people ughhhhh, tough question. Definitely Purcho as he's the epitome of fun and a eternal grommet through and through. Jim Newitt, and Mick Hughes as there two of my best mate ever, my younger brother Kristian (aka capt'n handsome pants), then Tom Curren and or Dane Reynolds, I don't know the latter two personally, but it would be fucking bulllllshit to watch them blow up on a trip with you and your buds. We'd have to a boatrip throughout the Mentawaiis and Telo's late season as your "almost gauranteed to get waves with light crowds", I've only been twice but that place is fucking ridiculous. We'd all just shred our brains out, get super crispy, document anything and everything, laugh our heads off, play music, sink piss, fish and pass gas. What all good men do of course.... Duh!
What’s your plans for the next 12 months?
Who knows, I'm starting an entirely new chapter in my life as we speak. So the world is my oyster.
Finally, what’s the motto you live your life by?
The best way to learn things in life is the hard way. And don't be afraid to share a smile, you might just make a friend.
I have been home a few weeks from south Africa and now Tahiti is coming up fast! I am so pumped to get some decent barrels over there for a change, hopefully it provides for us this year...
There is quite a bit of anticipation and pressure surrounding chopes with a lot of careers riding on doing well, mine included. It was really disappointing to finish 33rd at J-bay, I felt like I was surfing great and had spent the 2 month break getting my knee back to 100% from my injury in Feb. Sometimes the ocean is just not your friend, and this was one of them!
It was so good to have my family with me there, it always helps to put things in perspective and move on from a loss. The event was over so quickly we had barely recovered from the 36 hour mission to get there, so we just relaxed and did some exploring along the coast.
Went to Plettenberg Bay for 3 days, beautiful and peaceful little town about an hour from Jbay. We then headed back for a few days surfing and eating at our favourite café, Infood, before our safari trip to Pumba Game park at the end. Tosh is such animal lover he was in heaven the whole time, and Frankie well she is just a chilled out kid!
So im busy getting my boards sorted now, trying to decide how many guns ill need! hopefully all of them. And hopefully Pappa Teva who's house I stay at has fixed the boats this year before we get there... not fun when the waves are pumping and you are waiting on an engine to splutter into life.
Ill let you know how it goes...
KP.

The 2010 Rhythm Kirra Teams Challenge has been run and won. This years event was blessed with consistently solid waves ranging from fun 3 – 4 foot waves to storming 4 – 6 foot D’Bah for the final day.
Werri Boardriders took out the 2010 Rythm Kirra teams challenge in a nail biting finish that came down to the second last heat of the event. and what is being touted as the “Closest most exciting finish in the 26 year history of the event!”
Werri Beach Boardriders Club (Sth Coast NSW/Kiama are indisputably Australia’s best Boardriding Club after they won the Rhythm Kirra Teams Challenge in outstanding surf at Duranbah Beach on the southern Gold Coast today.
In the closest ever Challenge in the event’s 26 year history, five clubs battled for the win on the final afternoon with Snapper Boardriders (Gold Coast), Alley Boardriders (Currumbin Gold Coast), Werri Beach (Sth Coast NSW), Cabarita (NSW) and Coff’s Harbour all tightly bunched after 6 of their compulsory 8 team surfers had competed.
In a classic example of grass roots surfing the second-last heat of the event became the decider. Werri Beach surfer Matt Jones faced off against high profile Snapper Rocks surfer Josh Kerr. The equation was simple, Kerr or Jones had to win the four-man heat and their respective club would take the title.
Rhythm was the proud host of the inaugural Give A Trunk Charity - Art Exhibition held at the Monster Children Gallery in Sydney.
10 Australian artists provided work that was transformed onto Rhythm boardshorts and auctioned off with the original piece included.
The event raised over $5,000 for 10 separate Australian charities.
