The Europe Leg ... E-mail

Biaritz with Tosh

Tosh was that proud of his new sunnies he just picket out up in LA.

Unfortunately I cant say that we had an epic couple of months of surf for the Trestles and Europe leg of the tour…  In almost all of my heats I surfed 2 foot lefthanders!

I had every condition covered by my quiver, as long as it was bigger than 2 foot. That definitely hurt my competing, at one point I thought about sawing an inch off the tail and nose of my boards. Next year I will get DHD to make me the best small wave boards imaginable, and that might lead to getting a wave over knee high…hahaha. Portugal actually had some really fun surf, mostly not for the heats except for the day at Supertubos which I watched from the airport on the way home. Damn that looked pretty fun.

I scored some crazy barrels at the other beachbreak earlier in the event whilst they held round one at that super fat left reef. No-one out and stand up throaty tubes, I was wishing for someone to come and surf with me! Bobby paddled out just as I was going in, and later in the day it got pretty crowded. I surfed for about 6 hours total that day and felt like a surfer again.

Anyway, I have been home for a week now and loving the time with my family. The surf hasn’t been bigger than 2 foot (still) but it is unreal to run down the front of my place to get in the ocean. Reminds me why I love that beach so much…

The surf might not have been amazing but the kids had a great time, we were travelling with the parkos and the hobgoods the whole way through Europe so our troupe of groms could run wild. Tosh loves playing, and this year Macy was old enough to get involved with him, Evie and Savannah. Damo Hobgoods newest addition Colt was only 5 weeks old so missed the action.

I had some good results through those events, finished 9th 3 out of 4 events, which was a little frustrating as I had some missed opportunities to win some of those heats. I am happy with the outcome as I am now sitting 13th on the ratings and looking forward to Pipe and chance to win one of the best events on tour. It would be an amazing finish to the year, I hope it goes down in perfect 8-10 foot pipe (with the odd sneaky big backdoor wedge!).
